In the center of a scrimmage-style drill Monday at the UPMC Lemieux Sporting activities Complex, Pittsburgh Penguins coach Mike Sullivan stopped points abruptly and lit into the players.
His booming voice had the unmistakable tone of agitation, although with the acoustics in the rink it was unachievable to say for sure what he claimed for these not on the bench. Besides for the explosive four-letter word he employed at the finish of the harangue.
It seemed to be about enjoying smarter.
“I just want us to execute superior,” Sullivan claimed following practice. “I have increased anticipations of our men. They’re fantastic players, and I think often … we really don’t want hope to be part of our tactic. And which is what I explained to them.
“If we have bought to hope to join on a go, we’re superior off not generating the go. At times the best perform is no perform, retaining the puck in the risk-free part of the ice and not attempting to do some thing that places us in vulnerable positions.
“I assumed we did a great deal of hoping in that distinct drill, and that was the information.”
Practice then resumed.
