Whether it is your prerogative or not that outdoor hockey games have lost their shine or aren’t what they once were, they are still a spectacle event and one that the National Hockey League puts on with great display.

Saturday afternoon and evening in Philadelphia, the Penguins and Flyers met outside at Lincoln Financial Field, as part of the previously agreed “home-and-home” segment of the Stadium Series, with Pittsburgh hosting their version of the game in 2017 at Heinz Field.

With potential bad weather on the horizon, the NHL’s plan for the day/night was touch-and-go with an update coming at noon, in which they announced that the plan was to play as scheduled at 8:00 p.m.

Fans around the parking lots showed up in the afternoon to tailgate and have a good time before heading into the stadium.
