Former Pittsburgh Penguins star Kevin Stevens will be the featured speaker for the annual Cambria Regional Chamber of Commerce dinner.
This year’s event will include a reception beginning at 5:15 p.m. March 7, followed by the dinner at 6 p.m. in Frank J. Pasquerilla Conference Center in downtown Johnstown.
New this year will be special awards recognizing chamber members in three areas: innovation, business excellence and community impact, the chamber announced Friday.
Stevens played left wing and was a member of the Penguins from 1988 through 1995 and returned to Pittsburgh for the 2000-02 seasons.
In May 2017, Stevens pleaded guilty to drug charges and received probation. He revealed he had been addicted to prescription drugs since his recovery from a hard check against the New York Islanders in 1993 that shattered most of the bones in his face and required extensive reconstructive surgery.
He embraced the judge’s order to share his message with students at 36 high school students and went on to found the organization Power Forward and joined Pittsburgh-based Familylinks in offering solutions to addiction.
“We are excited about having Kevin Stevens here,” Chamber President Amy Bradley said. “It’s a very, very interesting story.”
Tickets and sponsorships for the annual dinner are available through the chamber’s website, www.crchamber.com.
